Taizé
An Evensong of Prayer & Meditation
The "songs of Taizé" performed by our special Taizé Choir open the invitation for community participants to join in meditative evensong of prayer and silence. Taizé was brought to Central Oregon by Sacred Art of Living Center in 1997 and is modelled after the international ecumenical community in Taizé, France, inspired by its founder, Brother Roger.
Taizé music is a series of short chants, repeated again and again which gives it a meditative character. Using just a few words they express a contemplative dimension of faith. As the words are sung over many times, this sound gradually penetrates the whole being. Meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to the Divine. It allows everyone to take part in a time of prayer and silence together. Each month Taizé prayer is dedicated to another dimension of healing, promoting a trust on earth and human solidarity for peace.
